What is UI and what does it mean?

UI, short for user interface, refers to the visual and interactive elements of a digital product that enable users to engage with it.

Good UI design takes into account factors such as layout, typography, color, and visual hierarchy to create an interface that’s not only aesthetically pleasing, but also intuitive and functional.

Example

A well-designed UI might include a simple navigation menu on your smartphone that’s easy to use, or large and clear buttons on an app that help you quickly find the information you need.

A common misconception is that UI design is only concerned with making things look good. While UI designers work hard to produce interfaces that are visually appealing they also aim to create interfaces that are easy to navigate, and optimized for their target users’ specific needs and preferences. This is why good UX research is an important precursor to good UI.

Just remember that great UI design should be about creating an interface that doesn’t confuse or overwhelm your users, but instead, guides them toward achieving their goals and gives them a fantastic user experience!
